About Tutor:

Hi! Welcome to EnglishTuition.org.

I'm Darren Chow, a full-time English tutor specializing in teaching English. I graduated from NUS in 2001, majoring in Sociology. My teaching career started in 2014. I started out giving 1 to 1 English tuition at students' homes. At the same time, I enrolled myself in a private teaching course (approved by Council of Private Education), which I eventually passed out from with a Diploma in Teaching English. Even though I was still new at teaching at that time, I was encouraged by the feedback that I had gotten from both students and parents.

In 2015, I was offered a teaching job with MOE, teaching physical education and English. Miraculously, I passed the fitness test required to teach PE. I took the plunge as I wanted to try out teaching in a school environment. I taught at Shuqun Secondary for about 6 months but eventually decided not to sign the bond as I missed the close interactions that I got with my students when I was giving private tuition. So I left and started giving private tuition again. Today, I mostly teach small group tuition to primary, secondary and JC students. For more information on my profile, please visit the about me page.

English, General Paper Tuition

I’m a full-time private tutor, specializing in English and General Paper. I teach all levels – from Primary to Junior College. Teaching students at different levels give me a unique perspective on language progression. I’m therefore in a good position to help students prepare for upcoming examinations: PSLE English, O Level English or A Level General Paper.

As a private tutor, I understand that every student is different. Students may be weak in different areas. They may have different learning dispositions and temperaments. I therefore tend to adopt a flexible (but principled) style when it comes to teaching.

In general, I include a mix of the following tracks.

  • Foundation building (for weaker students).
  • Creative writing (activates imagination).
  • Argumentation, narrative & descriptive writing (for more mature or advanced students).
  • Comprehension & English texts studies (improve on Paper 2 and further strengthens foundation).

For younger learners (primary to lower sec. levels), teaching is a lot more structured. When students build up a strong foundation, they are given more freedom to express themselves. More mature students will be allowed to dive more deeply into the subject and start building a wealth of knowledge (under the tutor’s supervision).

Feel free to contact me to learn more. If you are not happy with the first lesson and wish to discontinue, you do not have to pay me.
